Bitcoin surpassed the $102,000 mark for the first time in two weeks as stocks rose at the start of the first full trading week of 2025, boosting demand for riskier assets. The digital currency rose 4.1%, reaching $102,504 on Monday.

Bitcoin has recorded weekly gains of 8.2% as of Tuesday, its largest increase since November 24, while its gains over the past 24 hours stood at 2.4% as of 8:42 AM GMT, according to data reviewed by "Al Arabiya Business" from "CoinMarketCap."

Bitcoin’s record-breaking run in 2024 slowed down in late December as investors took profits. Expectations of a crypto-friendly administration under Donald Trump in the White House were thought to have contributed to Bitcoin reaching an all-time high of $108,315, according to data collected by Bloomberg and reviewed by "Al Arabiya Business."

Khushboo Kholar, a partner at "Lightning Ventures," predicts that 2025 will witness a super cycle with regulatory reforms likely to be adopted by a Trump-led government.

This upward trend follows the net inflow of $908 million into Bitcoin exchange-traded funds (ETFs) in the U.S. on Friday, marking the fifth-largest inflow for these ETFs since their launch in January 2024, according to Bloomberg data. These funds had recorded a record outflow of $680 million on December 19.

"MicroStrategy," which has become a key Bitcoin investor, continues to support purchases, having bought around $101 million of the digital currency last week, marking the ninth consecutive week of purchases, according to filings with the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission.

However, this marks a significant decrease compared to the over $1 billion in purchases the company made in the final two months of the previous year.

The future of Bitcoin in 2025 will partially depend on how successfully Trump implements his promises related to cryptocurrencies, including the creation of a national Bitcoin reserve.

Nonetheless, some are skeptical about the sustainability of this upward momentum. In a "Pulse MLIV" survey conducted on January 6, when participants were asked about winning investments in 2024 that might turn into losses in 2025, 39% chose Bitcoin, making it the top investment most likely to flip into a loss.
